A museum visit can feel like homework if the goal is to see every room. For your first visit to the National Museum of Korea in Seoul, try a smaller goal: choose one subject that interests you, look closely, and leave space for a break. Here is a practical way to plan that visit.
Check the day, not just the opening time
The museum currently lists 09:30–17:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and 09:30–21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. General admission is free; special exhibitions may have charges. Check the official museum homepage again before leaving.
Free admission does not mean every exhibition or activity follows the same booking rules. If one particular exhibition is the reason for your trip, open its own information page first. Keep your plan flexible instead of building the entire day around an unconfirmed room.
Save the destination before setting off
The official subway directions point visitors to Ichon Station, served by Line 4 and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, and Exit 2. They also indicate an elevator toward Exits 1 and 2. Save the museum’s directions rather than relying on a station name from memory.
A useful phone note is 국립중앙박물관 — National Museum of Korea. If you need step-free access, check the route before travel and follow current station signs. An exit number alone is not a complete accessible route.
Make a small plan once you arrive
Open the official floor guide. It marks information points, restrooms, elevators and stroller/wheelchair rental services. Ask staff about availability and the route that suits your group; do not assume equipment is reserved.
Our suggestion is simple: choose one area first, pause at a few objects that catch your attention, then decide whether to continue. A small notebook can be more useful than trying to photograph every label. Follow the photography instructions in each room, and ask when a sign is unclear.
A closure notice needs its dates checked
For example, the museum’s October 28 notice scheduled the Oegyujanggak Uigwe Gallery closure for October 29–30, with reopening planned for October 31, 2026. That is not a notice that the whole museum is closed. Read the specific gallery notice and check newer announcements before travel.
Before you go: save your route, check the room you most want to see, and agree on a comfortable stopping point with your companions. You do not have to finish the museum to have a worthwhile visit.
Practical information checked October 31, 2026 (Korea time). Hours, access and exhibition arrangements can change.
