Seattle acquired Matthew Wood from Nashville for Shane Wright on November 1, 2026, the clubs announced. Official announcement.

The one-for-one deal gives two young forwards a new setting without a larger package of players changing hands. Wood, 21, leaves the organization that drafted him, while Wright, 22, gets his next opportunity in Nashville. Wright brings more NHL experience, with 82 points in 183 career games before the move. The exchange is complete, rather than simply a report that the teams are discussing a move. The Tennessean, via Yahoo Sports.

What Seattle gets in Wood

Wood was Nashville’s 15th overall selection in the 2023 draft. He joins Seattle with 34 points in 91 NHL games, including 18 goals and 16 assists. His start to this season has been quieter: one goal and two assists through 14 appearances.

For the Kraken, the appeal is not just the most recent scoring line. General manager Jason Botterill highlighted Wood’s size, shooting and offensive potential in explaining the acquisition. That points to a bet on what the young forward can become, rather than a claim that he has already established himself as a consistent scorer. Sportsnet’s confirmed trade report.

Wood’s previous season offers a clearer picture of that potential. The six-foot-four forward scored 17 goals and added 13 assists in 71 games during his rookie campaign. Reproducing that contribution in a new lineup will be one of the things to watch.

Wright gets a fresh start

Wright also arrives after a modest opening to the season, with three goals and one assist in 14 games. His strongest NHL campaign remains 2024–25, when he recorded 19 goals and 44 points.

The contract timelines are similar. Both players are in the final year of their entry-level contracts and are due to become restricted free agents after the season. Daily Faceoff lists Wood’s cap hit at $950,000 and Wright’s at $886,666. That makes the coming months important for both their on-ice roles and their longer-term futures. Daily Faceoff.

The next question is fit

Nashville beat writer Alex Daugherty identified the middle of the Predators’ lineup as a possible landing spot for Wright and raised Tuesday’s game against Carolina as a potential debut. Those are possibilities, not a confirmed lineup announcement. For now, the transaction is settled; the exact roles still need to take shape. The Tennessean, via Yahoo Sports.
